The Effect of Screen Walls’ Properties on Scour Downstream Sluice Gate

Erosion is defined as the displacement of bottom materials due to flow energy and moving them farthest distance, which negatively affects stability hydraulic structures. In this research, effect properties screen walls on scour in open channels was studied. Therefore, study included evaluating diameters openings (φ), wall thickness (t), ratio distance from gate height opening below process. A total 140 experiments were conducted concrete channel including one size gravel, two heights (4 5 cm) at gate, three (0.8, 1.2 1.6) cm, thicknesses (0.4 0.8) value porosity (40%), using five discharges range (50.06-27.98) l/sec when x=40d, 45d, (44.8-23.68) x=50d, 56.25d. The results showed that with a diameter (1.2) cm resulted lowest volume hole while without led largest hole. Moreover, (0.8) leads less compared those for (0.4) especially high discharge i.e. values Fr number. Two empirical relations proposed compute depth its length term dimensionless variables dimension analysis.
